Why Workout Reviews?
Meri and I love a good workout. We also love trying new things! So, we thought why not try out new workouts and review them for you. We will rate them in these categories: Accessibility/HAES, Acceptance, Sweatiness, and most importantly Fun! We will rate them between 0 – 5 barbells. 0 = Not great and 5 = Awesome.
Criteria
Accessibility/HAES – Here at GUAG we believe that fitness should be accessible to everyone, no matter their size or shape. Classes and gyms should also be safe places for EVERY body to get their sweat on. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. In this category we will take into consideration:
- Representation of different body types in not only the participants but also the trainers/instructors.
- The number and level of modifications available for moves.
Acceptance – As two people living in bigger bodies, we know that sometimes walking into a gym or a new workout class can be intimidating. It can be made even more intimidating by how the staff, instructors, trainers, or even other class participates treat you. So when we rate this item, we will think about:
- Friendliness
- Positive energy
- Trainer interactions
Sweatiness – I know one of the things that stresses me out the most when trying a new workout is wondering if I’ll be able to keep up and be able to do the moves. Will I look like a complete fool or will I be having so much fun it doesn’t matter? So with this rating we’ll consider:
- General difficulty
- Impact on heart rate
- How sweaty our headbands are after 😉
Fun – Okay seriously, no matter what your 7th grade gym teacher told you, working out should be fun! Moving your body should be a celebration of what it can do and not some sort of weird punishment. We won’t have much criteria for this because fun is just…fun!
Hopefully, these reviews will give you the courage to try new things and especially take away some of the anxiety that can come from trying a new workout!
Remember, Meri and I are not healthcare professionals…so please consult your doctor before trying any sort of workout. You don’t want to push your body before it is ready.
