On Wednesday, March 17th instead of trying to avoid getting pinched and drinking green beer, we got the awesome opportunity to check out a different type of green – plants! Meri and I went to see the “Celebrate Spring” event at Bachmann’s Lyndale Avenue store in Minneapolis. What a cool and different way to spend St. Patty’s Day! “Celebrate Spring” is basically a bunch of vignettes showcasing different home décor trends for Spring. Each vignette has specially curated furniture, knick-knacks, and plants. These are all meant to give you ideas for your own home. It’s like walking through the Instagram feed of your favorite home design influencer. The event runs through April 11th and costs $5.00. 20% of the ticket proceeds will benefit the Tree Trust, which is pretty cool. You do have to register online for a time. We are so excited to go back and see everything again!
1. House plants, house plants, house plants
Have you become a crazy plant parent over the last year? Same. Luckily, Bachmann’s had a ton of “inside” plants incorporated into each vignette. Given we live in Minnesota where plants live outside for like two months out of the year (this is only a slight exaggeration), house plants feel like an essential addition to any living situation. I’ve found that house plants make my space feel waaaaay more inviting and I feel very accomplished keeping something else alive.
2. When life gives you lemons….
One of the big trends this year seems to be lemons. I’m not sure if this is intentional given the year we’ve had (when life gives you a pandemic….) or just a crazy happenstance. I don’t make the rules. But lemons were EVERYWHERE! While I don’t see myself filling my space with the sour citrus, I am really feeling the color scheme. Think blues, yellows, and greens. So pretty. Makes me think of drinking lemonade on a hot summer day. Which actually makes me hopeful that summer will be here before we know it!
3. Get your hands dirty
One of the vignettes Meri and I loved was basically an outdoor planting space with a homemade greenhouse made out of old windows. Why not spend some time this spring and summer planting a garden? Whether it’s vegetables, flowers, or both, get some dirt under your fingernails. It can be great therapy to connect with the earth especially after being cooped up all winter.
4. Spring isn’t just about pastels
I don’t know about you, but when I think of spring I always think of pastels and Easter bonnets. I’ve never been a huge fan of pastels, they just aren’t vibrant enough for me. After seeing all the different colors used in the vignettes, I think I can confirm that Spring is NOT all about pastels, and pretty much any color palette can be at your desposal (except like maybe Christmas colors, that would be weird).
5. Create a space you love
With all the different beautiful ideas, I think the biggest takeaway I have from this event is it is truly possible to create a space you love. There are many options and varieties of things you can choose to design your space and there isn’t just one trend. You are the one that spends the most time in your home, so make it a space that brings YOU joy.
